Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa GI Katsigras Museum

In 1981, Georgios and Kaiti Katsigras, through a letter addressed to the Mayor of Larissa, Aristeidis Lamproulis, decided to donate to the Municipality of Larissa their valuable collection of 781 works, most of which are by emblematic artists of Modern Greek painting and graphic arts. In 1983, the «Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa – G. I. Katsigras Museum» was founded, and in 2003 it was housed in its current building in Neapoli. The reimagined exhibition of the Katsigras collection titled “Reconnection” opened in 2019 and is still on view. Since 1986, the Open Workshop of Visual and Applied Arts of the Gallery has served as a vibrant hub of artistic learning and creative expression, welcoming hundreds of students and adults each year. The Gallery’s spacious halls, highlighted by the “Eirini Katsigra” hall, host an array of important solo and group exhibitions, frequently in partnership with other cultural institutions.
