Professor of Pesticide Science and Director of the Laboratory of Pesticide Science at the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA). He serves as Research Associate at the Laboratory of Toxicological Control of Pesticides of the Benaki Phytopathological Institute, as Adjunct Professor of the Department of Plant Science, McGill University (Montreal, Canada), and as a member of the Fertilizers’ Technical Advisory Committee (TEGEL) of the Hellenic Ministry of Rural Development and Food. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Sciences, an M.Sc. specialization in Crop Protection, and has extensive postdoctoral research experience in Canada. He has a strong scientific track record and an active presence in international conferences and scientific networks. He has established and leads the Biopesticide, Biocontrol & Pesticide Metabolomics Group (B2PMG), which focuses on the development of innovative crop protection and biostimulant solutions, as well as on the application of advanced metabolomics technologies for elucidating modes of action, assessing efficacy, and ensuring the safety of agri-food products. Dr Aliferis has documented expertise in regulatory compliance and evaluation of plant protection products, biostimulants, and fertilizers, with a particular emphasis on registration requirements, scientific substantiation, and the alignment of research outputs with the European regulatory framework and sustainable agriculture policies. His work also focuses on supporting the agri-food sector’s adaptation to key European priorities, including the European Green Deal, the Farm to Fork Strategy, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and the requirements of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plans for sustainable inputs and resilient production systems. He has extensive experience in the management of competitive research programmes and has contributed to the implementation of major national and international projects (H2020, Erasmus, NSERC, Genome Canada/Quebec, among others), with a total budget exceeding €22 million. His main research interests include the research and development of biostimulants and (bio-) pesticides, food safety, and the deployment of advanced technologies in the agri-food sector, aiming to bridge scientific innovation with the needs of production, the market, and the evolving European regulatory environment.
