Christina Kontoyianni

Ms. Kontogianni is an Agronomist M.Sc. Graduate of the Department of Utilization of Natural Resources & Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural University of Athens. She has a Master’s Degree in “Environmental Management and Protection (Energy and Pollution) from the Open University of Cyprus as well as an Integrated Master of the A.U.A.

She speaks English, she holds ECDL certification, she knows AutoCAD, Q-G.I.S. and telescopic programs. She has worked as a damage estimator at ELGA in different crops, as a foreign material appraiser in the Greek Sugar Industry and has been Head of the «Fight against dakus» at the Fund for the Protection of Olive Production of the Prefecture of Larissa. In the Municipality of Larissa, she had the supervision of the construction of automatic irrigation networks of the city, horticultural studies, the supervision of the Local Land Improvement Organizations, the distribution of grazing land, etc.

From 2015 she is at the Directorate of Agricultural Economy of Larissa in Thessaly Region, carrying out agro-environmental audits in the context of the Rural Development Program 2007-2013 and 2014-2020.

Christina is mother of two sons, aged 18 and 21.

Dr. Nikos Chorianopoulos

Dr. Nikos Chorianopoulos was born in Athens and is a Senior Researcher (Food Hygiene) of Institute of Technology of Agricultural Products of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization DEMETER. He received his BSc in Food Science and Technology Dept of Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), Greece in 2002. Subsequently, he obtained his PhD in Science Dept of AUA in 2007 and had post-doctoral training in the laboratories of Prof. G.-J. E. Nychas in AUA and Prof. J. N. Sofos in Colorado State University of USA. He had worked as Food Scientist-Researcher at more than 43 European and Greek projects, at 12 of them as coordinator.

His work has been focusing on the field of food microbiology with special interest in food safety, in the use of natural antimicrobials as food preservatives, in probiotics, in biofilm disinfection, in fermented products, in the use of modern methods for food analyses. He has published 49 scientific papers in SCI journals (IF/pub: 2.715, h-index: 20, 1786 citations), 4 book chapters and he has more than 120 presentations in international and national conferences. He has served as reviewer in several International Journals of SCI. He has teaching experience in Agricultural University of Athens as an Assistant Professor.

Mr. Nikos Thymakis

SHORT CV

 

Nikos Thymakis born in Athens in 1971 and hails from Naoussa and Chania. He is Agronomist and is engaged in the Floriculture and Gardening since 1998. He has done studies and construction for over 200 projects. Among other things, he deals with the management of herb farms in terms of organic farming.

He has participated representing Greece in International Floriculture and Horticulture events, as in IGM Tulln (Austria, 2007) and the Taipei Flora Expo (Taiwan, 2010-2011) where he got the 6th place among 31 entries, the better for European country. He was the Project Manager of the Greek participation in Floriade (Netherlands 2012) with the group set up for this purpose, SYNERGIA “Hellenic Garden Team”. For all his activity, the Hellenic Plant Material Exporters Association (HEPMEA) announced him Honorary President. He participated for Greece in IHK Goyang (Korea 2016) with the Hellenic Garden “Anthestiria” along with the award-winning Landscape Architect Konstantina Stara and in 2017, with Hellenic Garden “ Aegean Miracle-the Island of Skyros”

Within partnerships abroad, he worked in Qatar (2012) to palm -management projects  and Halki (Princess Island-Constantinoupolis) (2013-2016) for the construction of the “thematic garden” at the Halki Theological School (1,4ha) , applying the study of  Neapolis University of Paphos.

He was the Director of the Kifissia Flower Show from 2005-2012, boosting the international profile and the dimension of environmental education. A plurality of editorial content in newspapers and magazines as well as television hits on gardening and gardening shows in the last decade.

He is the co-founder of GREEKPALMSOCIETY struggling for the dissemination and preservation of the Cretan Date Palm (Phoenix theophrasti) and member of EUNOPS (European Network of Palm Scientists).

From October 2015 and after a long career in the municipalities of Halandri and Kifissia and the body for the Park of Environmental Awareness “Antonis Tritsis” (110 ha) he works  to the Planning and Development Office Resources of the Municipality of Maroussi, with focus on the European Programs and International Relations.

Since October 2016 he is the Landscape consultant of the Rejuvenation of Ionian Village Campus gardens (Ileia, Greece, 13 ha) . He worked as senior landscape consultant in Stavros Niarchos Foundation Mediterranean Park (Athens ,1.5ha) for 6 months in 2017.

As a Landscape Consultant is convinced that the “landscaping” is a “tool” of cultural, tourism -and not only- to promote our country. In particular, it enhances the dynamics of sustainable and self-sustaining “Hellenic Garden” worldwide with his activities. He is a member of several voluntary organizations concerned with the green and the environment.

He was Senior Adviser to the Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Ministers Office) and President of Institute of Agricultural Sciences (Syggros Estate-Athens, 100ha) from 1st September 2010 -31st August 2020 .

Currently he is the Director o ELGO DEMETER “Syggros Horticulture ,Garden Design and Landscaping School” as much as member of the board of Institute of Agricultural Science and “Metropolitan Green of Athens S.A” (Historical Parks of National Garden of Athens.

 

Dr. Anagnostis Argiriou

Dr. Anagnostis Argiriou was born in Drama. He graduated Biological Sciences with full honors and degrees. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Medical Biotechnology from Italy.

From 1996 to 2003 he worked in the Center for Genetic Engineering (CEINGE Biotecnologie Avanzate) in Italy where he developed and improved gene therapy and molecular diagnostic protocols, but also participated in the sequencing program of the first plant genome.

Since 2006 he holds the position of Researcher and from 2014 the position of Deputy Director at the Institute of Applied Biosciences of the Center for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH).

His main research field is the study of genetic and epigenetic mechanisms related to nutrition and the effects on health. Furthermore, he works on the management and introduction of technological innovations based on modern genomic technologies for the promotion and exploitation of the Greek biodiversity.

He participates in various scientific councils of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, the Mistry of Rural Development and Food and the Ministry of Health. He has many years of teaching experience in university; he participates in research projects, and is the author of a significant number of scientific publications in international journals.

Dr. Charalambos Kasimis

Charalambos Kasimis is a Professor at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development of the Agricultural University of Athens. In March 2015, he was appointed as Secretary General of Agricultural Policy and Management of European Funds of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, in charge of CAP, Rural Development and Fisheries Development Programmes of Greece as well as International Relations. He completed his term in office in July 2019.

He has served as the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development (2013-2014) and as the Director of the Postgraduate Studies MSc. Programme “Integrated Rural Development and Management of Rural Space” (2010-2014). Between September 2014 and March 2015, he was appointed as Deputy Rector of the Agricultural University of Athens. In the period 1986-2003 he served as a member of staff at the Department of Economics of the University of Patras and between 1995 and 2000 as the Director of the Institute of Urban and Rural Sociology at the National Centre for Social Research. For a number of years, he served as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society for Rural Sociology and between 2013 and 2015 as President.

His academic interests focus on issues of rural transformation and development in Greece, the Balkans and the Mediterranean region and more particularly on family farming, employment and rural community change. Migration and, more precisely, the implications of international migration on rural regions have become one of his main research topics in the past years. In the crisis years he dealt with the study of the implications of the economic crisis upon the rural areas and the ‘return to the land’ movement in Greece.

Since 2016 Charalampos Kasimis is Vice President and member of the Governing Board of the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM).

Between 2018 -2019 he served as Executive Board member of the Organisation “Enterprise Greece”.
