Dr. Ioannis Ganopoulos is researcher of Institute of Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources-ELGO Demeter and has a scientific background on plants biotechnology on genetics, transcriptomics, genomics, developing molecular markers (RAPD, SSR, ISSR, SNP) to identify population structure and phylogenetic relationships.

Dr. Ioannis Ganopoulos, was born in 1982 in Drama, Greece. Dr. Ganopoulos received his BSc degree in Agriculture from the University of Thessaly (2000-2005) his MS in plant breeding and plant physiology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2005-2007) and his PhD in Plant Breeding from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2008–2013).

He has been awarded a Heracleitus PhD scholarship by the European Social Fund and the Hellenic National Fund. His main research interests focus on plant molecular breeding, plant population genetics and genomics, genetic diversity, DNA barcoding and molecular markers.

His recent scientific interests focus on epigenetics, DNA methylation and trascriptomic analysis for molecular breeding purposes. He has participated in more than 15 research projects, one of them competitive European project. He has published eighty-nine (89) reviewed articles in SCI journals and h-index=20. He was a co-worker in national/international projects and he is Editor in Frontiers in Plant Science journal.
