AgriBusiness Forum, in collaboration with ELGO-Demeter, the Agricultural University of Athens, the Hellenic Space Center, and the i-BEC Interbalkan Environment Centre, organized a high-level working meeting on Tuesday, 9/12/2025, on the topic: “The New European Directive on Soil Monitoring and Resilience” (SML).
As 61% of the EU territory suffers severe soil degradation, this new directive, released in late October 2025, sets targets, definitions, and rules for assessing soil health, sustainable soil management, and remediation of contaminated areas.
The scope of the aforementioned meeting was to delve into “SML” requirements, the monitoring framework, the integration into the current and new C.A.P., the management of energy footprint, also to assess the impact on the overall ecosystem, including farming, processing, distribution, and consumption of agricultural products.
The meeting was conducted by Mr. Giannis Balakakis, Chair of the AgriBusiness Forum, while keynote speakers have been:
The meeting was held at the Agricultural University of Athens and was attended, upon invitation, by designated representatives from Ministries, Organizations, Associations, Banks, and the Diplomatic Corps.

Given the stressful challenges burdening Greece’s farm sector and the overall impact on the agrifood value chain, we would like to inform you that the 8th International AgriBusiness Forum is being rescheduled on March 18 & 19, 2026.

“The Future of Thessaly agriculture in the Green & Digital Era” unveiled in Thessaly AgriBusiness Forum 2025. Dr. Kyriakos Pozrikidis key-message from his intervention at Chapter-1: “Exhibitions are the modern gateways of extroversion, where Greek creativity meets the world. Exhibition organizers evolve into strategic partners of growth, turning each region’s brand into a global passport of trust, investment, and collaboration. From the regions to the global stage, powered by Greece’s collective identity and ambition.”

“The Future of Thessaly agriculture in the Green & Digital Era” unveiled in Thessaly AgriBusiness Forum 2025. The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Greece, HE Ms. Nahida Rahman Shumona key-message from his intervention at Chapter-8: “Over 30,000 Bangladeshis live in Greece, with nearly half working in agriculture, especially in Manolada, Kalamata, and Lappa, where they help grow strawberries, harvest olives, and maintain fields. Bangladesh offers a vast market and advanced agro-processing. Greece excels in horticulture, greenhouse farming, and EU logistics. Together, we can modernize agri-food systems, improve labor mobility, and boost productivity. We invite Greece to collaborate in:
-Climate-resilient infrastructure: Durable storage, irrigation, and transport.
-Agri-tech innovation hubs: Joint research and scalable solutions.
Let’s cultivate resilience, innovation, and shared prosperity. Long live Greece-Bangladesh friendship”
